An orbit of the earth’s complete
The old year’s gone; the new we greet.
Our skyline boasts a brand-new toy:
The tram is up and running. Joy
fills the heart and bank account
Of all whose condo towers mount
Ever higher, ever wider
(They knew a City Hall insider?).
The rest of us, who foot the bill
To get the doctors to Pill Hill
Await the final cost with dread.
We know the tram’s high overhead.
To City Hall I fondly wave,
Although some grief to you I gave,
I’m pleased to see at last that you
Are fixing up Front Avenue. (I’m not going to attempt a rhyme for "Naito Parkway.")
"Candidates Gone Wild" I thank
For putting in the second rank
The limerick I sent (no charge),
Read in public by Storm Large!
Mark Rosenbaum, at PDC
Gets encouragement from me.
His appraisers, though, should read the mot
Of Oscar Wilde on cynics. Go
And look it up before you say
The value’s less than nil today
Of parcels in the downtown core.
For zero needs to be the floor
And not the ceiling of the fee
That builders pay the PDC.
In two thousand six we said goodbye
To famous figures, low and high.
They’ll all be missed — well, all save one.
No need to name him here; he’s done.
My blogging friends I wish the best
On New Year’s Day and through the rest
of ‘007. May all go right
For reds, and left for blues. Tonight
I’m purple. Come tomorrow’s sun
I’ll carp again; for now I’m done.
Welcome, 2007!
