The One True b!X is nudging Jim Francesconi’s campaign in the direction of transparency, meaning posting its contributors daily. “Ed” responds (same link) that Tom Potter’s campaign hasn’t disclosed its contributors.
But the real question is not who is giving money to whom, but what interests the givers represent. So let’s add some boxes to check to the campaign forms, and require candidates to total contributions based on the boxes that are checked.
These boxes might appear on the first version of the new and improved campaign form. The contributor would check all that apply:
___ Doug Goodman, or his relative, or his attorney, or his employee
___ Another downtown property owner, or his relative/attorney/employee (identify the principal)
___ Consultant who received two or more “no-bid” contracts from the City in the last 12 months
___ Officer or employee of a trade association or union (identify the association or union)
___ Someone who needs a favor quickly for a particular client (identify the client)
___ Someone who expects to need a favor soon, but doesn’t know for whom yet
___ Public works contractor
___ The guy who said we should cover all the reservoirs
___ The guy who sold us the water bureau’s billing system
and so on.
Wouldn’t this be much more useful to the public?

That would be a good project there’s probably grant money out there for.
Don’t forget:
___ Industry with lots of land use issues
___ Member of Portland Development Commission Pork Network (may be too large a group to constitute meaningful disclousre)
