The Portland Development Commission has been an occasional target of this and other blogs, so it’s only fair to catch PDC doing something right. PDC has announced that it’s reached a deal to help a developer put 200 apartments on the Police Block annex, the quarter-block eyesore at SW Third and Oak. (From the street it looks like a concrete bunker with plywood windows.)
High time, and thank you.

Yeah I walk past that place nearly every day on my way to downtown Stumptown. I keep meaning to take a picture, so I guess I’d better hurry.
It’s worth comparing the Annex to the Police Block itself just to the east, built in the time of Mayor Rushlight and handsomely restored by a lawyer/real estate developer maybe 15 or 20 years ago. I’m tempted to research the question of how such an awful building could have been built as the annex to the police station, from which it couldn’t be more different.
I occasionally visit Stumptown, and will look for you when I’m next there.
