The population of the 13 colonies in 1776 was maybe 2/3 of that of Oregon today. Out of their white male inhabitants the colonists were able to find George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, Richard Lee, John Hancock, and James Madison.
As we’re not limited to white males today, and thus have a pool effectively three times the size to draw upon, our political parties should be able to fnd the equivalent of Washington, Franklin, Adams, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Lee, and Hancock to serve in the Oregon legislature — plus twenty or thirty more men and women of equal caliber.

The modern day equivalents would not stand (tolerate) the politically correct whining regarding their personal habits.
In those days only taxpayers voted, keeping government small. Now that non-taxpayers vote, we are doomed to ever-larger government until the economy someday collapses.
Also, women may prefer nanny-state policies, hurting themselves, as well as men, in the long run.
