Oregon supreme court affirms $79 million punitive damage award in tobacco case

Today the Oregon supreme court reversed the court of appeals and reinstated an award of $79.5 million of punitive damages against Philip Morris to the family of a deceased smoker of Marlboros.  This is one of the largest punitive damage awards in Oregon’s history.
